24 January 2024 By Alan

This sleek addition not only enhances your home’s aesthetics but also empowers you to take control of your water usage like never before. But before you dive into the crystal-clear waters of convenience, let’s guide you through the pairing process, making sure your new keypad harmonizes perfectly with your existing meter.

Preparation is Key:

Gather your tools: You’ll need your new black keypad, the existing UIU code (usually found on a sticker inside the old keypad or on your receipt), and a clear head for instructions.
Check those batteries: Your new keypad uses four AA batteries. If the keypad appears ‘dead’ when you receive it then please refer to the Straton Prepaid video below.

Pairing: A Two-Step Tango:

Reset the UIU: This step wipes the slate clean for your new partnership. With the black keypad powered on, press the #981# combination. The display will show “default.”
Re-pair the UIU: Now, it’s time to introduce your keypad to the meter. Enter the #999# UIU code followed by the serial number on your water meter (usually engraved near the base). Press # after each entry. If successful, the keypad will display “Paired OK.”
Bonus Tip: If you encounter any hiccups during pairing, don’t despair! Straton Prepaid‘s website and contact details are readily available for assistance. We May Be Closed But Our Online Store Is NOT

19 December 2023 By Alan

With the Christmas season upon us and one full year of full time running of our Straton Prepaid online store specialising in prepaid water and electricity meters we have realised that having an online store is something that can be very demanding at certain times of the year.

Black Prepaid Water Meter UIU (keypad) With Replaceable Batteries

One of the items in our Straton Prepaid Online Store is a User Keypad Interface (UIU or Keypad) with REPLACEABLE Batteries for the popular South African manufactured range of Amanzi Meters. These meters are installed in their thousands in big cities like Cape Town and Johannesburg and their original ‘white’ keypads are now coming to their end of life.

Of course, knowledge is power and savvy consumers are now replacing the original keypads (which had NO user replaceable batteries) with our ‘Black UIU’s’ WITH replaceable batteries.

As Straton Electrical has, since 1966, been a traditional bricks and mortar company involved in the construction industry our annual holidays are taken en masse by employees at this time of the year.

BUT, the internet does not sleep and the orders do not stop coming in so just temporarily we have moved the order processing and shipping to the home of one of our trustees to ensure continuity of supply.

SO, top of our advice to anyone running an online store is that fact that your store is never closed and you will have to make sure that supply is continuous – even in the holidays!

Running and maintaining an online store can be a rewarding venture, but there are also other aspects that are often overlooked.

Here are some things that people don’t often talk about when it comes to managing an e-commerce business:

  1. Constant Marketing and Promotion: Running an online store requires continuous marketing and promotion efforts to attract and retain customers. This involves social media marketing, email campaigns, influencer partnerships, and more.
  2. Customer Service Demands: Providing exceptional customer service is crucial, and it can be more demanding than expected. Responding to inquiries, handling returns and exchanges, and managing customer feedback are all time-consuming tasks.
  3. Inventory Management Challenges: Balancing inventory levels to meet demand without overstocking or running out of popular items can be a complex task. Inventory management software and accurate forecasting are essential.
  4. Technical Maintenance: Regular website maintenance, software updates, and cybersecurity measures are vital for a smooth operation. This often requires technical knowledge or the assistance of a web developer.
  5. Payment Processing Fees: Many people underestimate the impact of payment processing fees on their profit margins. Understanding the various fees associated with different payment methods is important for financial planning.
  6. Shipping Logistics: Managing shipping logistics, including choosing the right carriers, calculating accurate shipping costs, and handling international shipments, can be a significant challenge.
  7. Legal and Compliance Considerations: Online stores need to adhere to various laws and regulations, such as consumer protection, data privacy, and e-commerce regulations. Staying compliant requires ongoing attention.
  8. Competition and Market Saturation: The online marketplace is highly competitive, and standing out among numerous competitors can be tough. Finding a unique selling proposition and continually innovating is essential.
  9. Seasonal Fluctuations: Online sales can be subject to seasonal fluctuations, which may require adjusting marketing strategies, inventory levels, and overall business operations.
  10. Financial Management: Managing cash flow, budgeting for marketing and operational expenses, and understanding profit margins are all critical aspects that require attention and expertise.

By considering these often-overlooked aspects of running an online store, entrepreneurs can better prepare themselves for the challenges and opportunities that come with e-commerce.

Pre-paid Water Meters Help Preserve This Precious Rescue

2 December 2023 By Alan

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipal Metropolitan area has been subject to drought restrictions for the most part of the last 7 years.

The dams to the west of the metropole have ranged in level from below 10% to almost full over this time.

Tha main water supply to the east of the metropole comes from the Nooitgedacht water treatment plant which receives its water from the Gariep Dam almost 500 kilometres to the north.

As a consequence residents have become accustomed to water savings and punitive tariffs.

Water is a precious resource, and during drought conditions, it becomes crucial to conserve it effectively. Whether you’re in a drought-affected area like Nelson Mandela Bay or simply want to be more mindful of your water usage, we have compiled 11 tips to help you save water.

11 Water Saving Tips:

  1. Fix Leaks Promptly: Regularly check for and repair any leaks in faucets, pipes, and toilets to prevent water wastage.
  2. Install Water-Saving Devices: Consider installing low-flow showerheads, faucet aerators, and water-efficient appliances to minimize water usage.
  3. Shorten Shower Time: Take shorter showers to reduce water consumption. Consider turning off the water while soaping or shampooing.
  4. Collect Rainwater: Utilise rain barrels or tanks to collect rainwater for outdoor use, reducing the need for treated water for gardening and other non-potable purposes.
  5. Water Plants Wisely: Water your garden or plants during the cooler parts of the day to minimize evaporation. Use mulch to retain moisture in the soil.
  6. Sweep, Don’t Hose: Instead of using a hose to clean outdoor areas, opt for sweeping or using a broom to conserve water.
  7. Run Full Loads: When using the dishwasher or washing machine, ensure that you run full loads to maximize water efficiency.
  8. Reuse Water: Consider reusing greywater from activities like dishwashing or bathing for non-potable purposes such as flushing toilets or watering plants.
  9. Adjust Lawn Maintenance: Raise the cutting height of your lawn mower to promote water retention in the soil, reducing the need for frequent watering.
  10. Check Watering Systems: Regularly inspect and maintain irrigation systems to ensure they are functioning efficiently and not contributing to water wastage.
  11. Educate Others: Share water-saving tips with family, friends, and the community to collectively make a difference in water conservation efforts.

Private Prepaid Sub Metering in Nelson Mandela Bay:

In drought-affected areas like Nelson Mandela Bay, private prepaid sub metering offers several benefits for consumers:

  1. Controlled Water Usage: With private prepaid sub metering, consumers have direct control over their water usage. By monitoring and managing their consumption, they can actively contribute to water conservation efforts during the drought.
  2. Cost Management: Prepaid sub metering allows consumers to track their water expenditure in real time, promoting responsible usage and cost management. This transparency empowers individuals to adjust their consumption patterns and save on water expenses.
  3. Community-wide Impact: Private prepaid sub metering fosters a culture of water awareness and conservation within the community. As consumers become more mindful of their usage, the collective impact contributes to alleviating the strain on local water resources during drought conditions.

By implementing these water-saving tips and utilising private prepaid sub metering from local suppliers such as Straton Pre-paid, consumers in Nelson Mandela Bay can play a pivotal role in mitigating the effects of drought while managing their water usage effectively.
