{"id":68,"date":"2016-04-28T09:22:12","date_gmt":"2016-04-28T07:22:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/straton.co.za\/pre-paid\/?p=68"},"modified":"2016-04-28T09:22:12","modified_gmt":"2016-04-28T07:22:12","slug":"eskom-installs-almost-6000-smart-meters-in-sandton-and-midrand","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/straton.co.za\/pre-paid\/eskom-installs-almost-6000-smart-meters-in-sandton-and-midrand\/","title":{"rendered":"Eskom installs almost 6\u201a000 smart meters in Sandton and Midrand"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p>Eskom has started installing smart meters in Sandton and Midrand\u201a with 5\u201a932 meters installed between January and March this year.<\/p>\n<p>The conversions of the meters to prepayment will resume in July\u201a once Eskom has upgraded its online vending system\u201a the power utility says.<\/p>\n<p>Eskom has made a strategic decision to convert all of its conventionally billed customers to prepaid meters.<\/p>\n<p>It says this project will enhance its revenue which is an important focus area to support its financial sustainability efforts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCustomers are encouraged to convert from their conventional meters to the prepaid billing mode as it has several benefits such as improved reliability\u201a reduction of public safety incidents and better management of energy consumption. More importantly\u201a the days of billing errors will be a thing of the past\u201a\u201d the electricity provider says.<\/p>\n<p>In Sandton and Midrand\u201a the plan is to have all 32\u201a885 of its domestic customers with smart meters installed and converted to prepaid meters by the end of the 2016\/17 financial year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn Soweto we have installed over 40\u201a000 split prepaid meters and converted over 13\u201a000 to prepaid mode. Consequently\u201a Eskom has already seen a R33.63-million improvement of revenue collection in Soweto after it installed and converted customers to split prepaid meters.
