{"id":112,"date":"2016-09-15T06:58:15","date_gmt":"2016-09-15T04:58:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/straton.co.za\/pre-paid\/?p=112"},"modified":"2016-09-15T06:58:15","modified_gmt":"2016-09-15T04:58:15","slug":"prepaid-meters-increase-collection-rate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/straton.co.za\/pre-paid\/prepaid-meters-increase-collection-rate\/","title":{"rendered":"Prepaid meters increase collection rate"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p>Eskom has already seen a ZAR39 million improvement of revenue collection in Soweto over a year-long period after it installed and converted customers to split prepaid meters.<br \/>\nThe figure is cumulative from the 2014\/15 financial year up to 30 June 2016.<\/p>\n<p>The revenue collection levels for customers \u2013 including Large Power Users (LPU), Prepaid Power Users (PPU) and Small Power Users (SPU) and excluding bulk suppliers \u2013 are currently at 48%.<\/p>\n<p>Soweto has approximately 181 000 customers, about 65% of whom are customers who are on conventionally-billed metering system and the remainder are on conventional prepaid metering system.<br \/>\nWe have installed over 41 628 split meters and converted 24 746 to prepaid and are planning to accelerate the roll out of prepaid meters in Soweto.<\/p>\n<p>The conversions of the meters have also resulted in a gradual increase in sales.<\/p>\n<p>Eskom is currently installing prepaid meters in Sandton, Midrand, Soweto, Kagiso and other areas around Gauteng.<br \/>\nThis is in order to enable revenue collection and address Eskom\u2019s debt collection challenges.<\/p>\n<p>In Sandton and Midrand alone, Eskom connected close to 14 700 meters from March 2016 to date.<br \/>\nThe company aims to complete the installation of 32 000 prepaid meters in Sandton and Midrand by end of March 2017<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Source: <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.biznisafrica.co.za\/prepaid-meter-conversions-in-soweto-improves-revenue-collection-by-zar39-million\/\">Prepaid meter conversions in Soweto improves revenue collection by ZAR39 million | BizNis Africa<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Eskom has already seen a ZAR39 million improvement of revenue collection in Soweto over a year-long period after it installed and converted customers to split prepaid meters.
